Industry pipeline initiatives prepare high school students with industry-specific training. The programs are designed to prepare participants, upon graduation from high school, to build successful careers at local companies in high-growth, high demand professions as well as to pursue post secondary education. These models rely heavily on our partnerships among employers, high schools and instituitons of higher education. We have several pipeline initiatives, including the Financial Leaders of Tomorrow, a financial services industry pipeline, which needs more industry partners.

There are other ways for business professionals and community members to get involved with Philadelphia Academies. Below is a listing of roles we have identified, but we are also open to new, innovative ideas that you may have.

- Site Tour Coordinator
Students will tour your company and interact with employees. By spending the day at your company site, students will gain an understanding of the 21st Century skills needed in the workplace. Industry partners will work with teachers prior to site tour in order to align the content of the day with current school curriculum.
Offer enhanced college visits, including classroom visits, interaction/lunch with college students, a campus tour, admissions information, information about the 21st Century skills needed on campu and/or shadowing opportunities.
- Guest Instructor/Speaker
A Business and Community Partner may visit classes during the school year to serve as co-teacher or speaker on a specific industry-related issue, or to collaborate with a teacher in an ongoing way around a project. The purpose of serving as a guest instructor is to enhance the curriculum by incorporating one or more of the four 21st Century skills.
- Industry Coach
Industry coaches provide professional development to Philadelphia high school teachers and principals on trends in their field of expertise.
- Internship/Workplace Coach
A dedicated staff person can provide coaching, mentorship, feedback, and support to student interns for the length of their internships.

- Campus Tour Coordinator
Students will visit your campus and participate in a campus tour, admissions and financial aid presentations, classroom observations relevant to the Academy’s career focus, and lunch with college students and/or professors of the host department. Students will gain exposure to the next level of studies in their area of focus and an understanding of what it takes to succeed in college.
- Guest Instructor/Speaker
A Post-Secondary Partner may visit classes during the school year to serve as co-teacher or speaker on a specific issue or collaborate with a teacher in an ongoing way around a project. This collaborative learning experience may take place either in the high school or on campus
- Industry Coach
Industry coaches provide professional development opportunities to Philadelphia high school teachers and principals on trends in their field of expertise. College professors might also collaborate with high school teachers to share examples of student work and discuss strategies for preparing students academically for the transition from high school to college.
- Internship/Workplace Coach
A dedicated staff person can provide coaching, mentorship, feedback, and support to student interns for the length of their internships.
