When
Octavio Pineda entered Frankford High Schools Business Academy
in the 9th grade, he was immediately motivated by his teacher
and coach, James McCabe, to get serious about his education, develop
his business skills, and succeed on the basketball court. When
Octavio did not make the varsity team the first year, Coach McCabe
gave him the position of team manager to encourage his interest
and develop his people skills.
Following
graduation from the Business Academy in 2001, Octavio was accepted
into the Bridges employment program, which is sponsored by Dechert
and developed in partnership with the Academies, Inc. After receiving
summer training in the program, he was hired to work in the mailroom
by Stradley Ronon Stevens and Young, and then transferred to the
information technology department with the help of his supervisor.
By taking
advantage of the benefits of being in the Business Academy, Octavio
has already achieved much for his age. He knows first hand what
can be accomplished in high school if you are given the right
opportunities and the trust of those around you. Octavio says
that both the Business Academy and his employer gave him a chance
to achieve his goals.
